I am wondering how any of you would determine the year of a film by looking at it on a video-projector? I think the point is to see how much detail you can get. I was thinking that a close-up might be too much? I am wondering if this is the best way to determine this? I am looking at a film that I have right now. It looks like it was made between 1909 and 1918. Is there a simple way to see if it is in fact 1909 or just what looks like a 1909 film? The film is called "An American Camp-Out" and it is 65 minutes long. There is a real difference between looking at a close-up of a print and the real thing. You can really tell the difference when you see the detail in the print. You don't need a special machine to see it, although a good projector can do a lot. Or you can simply look at a modern print on the big screen in a movie theater. When you see the size of the characters on film you will be amazed at how small everything is compared to the size of real things. Here is a post from our Forum about this very subject. I think you have to have the right film to do that. Eastman or Dow/Eastman. No other company makes film that large. You need to know the expected longevity of the film. Yessir, from what little I have read of the subject, light damage is the number one enemy of film and film emulsions. Sound films, stills and motion have a longer "shelf life" (I don't know what the proper term for that
